Dr. Flora Zarcu Power

President, Society of Medical Romanian Diaspora

It is an honor to be here.
I have practiced Internal Medicine in the United States for over two and a half decades, a journey that has granted me extensive experience in medical education, clinical practice, and organizational leadership. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of training future generations of physicians at the Yale School of Medicine and Quinnipiac University Medical School. I have led dedicated clinical teams within a multidisciplinary medical group; to highlight a few milestones, I contributed to the implementation of the first Accountable Care Organization (ACO) structure in the Northeast United States within my group- PriMed Physicians. In collaboration with colleagues at Yale University, I worked on optimizing Clinical Care protocols in alignment with the latest scientific clinical evidence. I also co-authored the Yale organizational "Best Clinical Practices"— several Care Signature Clinical Pathways—designed to elevate standards and deliver truly remarkable results for our patients.
Today, these clinical standards are integrated into daily practice. Beyond roles, titles, and responsibilities there is one principle that has guided my entire career- every patient is a unique story, an entire world. The clinical encounter—that privileged space between a physician and another human being—is where science meets empathy, and where professional responsibility becomes a profoundly human act. There, amidst the silence or the unease of the moment, care rooted in compassion finds its most authentic expression. I firmly believe that progress in medicine is measured not only by protocols, technology, or clinical outcomes but also by our ability to remain anchored in humanity. To see the person before us, not just the diagnosis. To listen, not just to treat. To accompany, not just to intervene.
Today, more than ever, we need leaders and professionals who can bridge scientific rigor and clinical experience with human sensitivity. We need medical communities that inspire, educate, and transform—and every one of us plays an essential role in this mission.
